 sunday spotlight

Happy Sunday everyone! Time for another Sunday Spotlight! I love doing this feature, and it continues to get great views and reviews from our readers. I think people like reading about other people, especially people in their own community. Do you know of a local lady in business that could benefit from some great local promotion? Please send her our way and she just might be our next Sunday Spotlight gal!

Today I would like to introduce you to a dear friend of mine, Deb Mitzel. Deb is an amazing multi-talented woman and one that is always on the move. Her photography is breathtaking and I am proud to shine the spotlight on her today. Enjoy!

Tell us about your business. When did you start and how long you’ve been in business too.

I have loved photography from an early age.  I started out taking pictures with Kodak 110 and 126 film cameras, then progressed to a film 35mm SLR in later years.  I have always been “the photographer” in my group, documenting vacations, family gatherings, and other events with scrapbooks and photo collages.  I purchased my first digital SLR in 2004 and have been rediscovering my love of photography ever since.  In the past year, I have begun dabbling in portrait photography and after realizing how much I enjoyed it, I decided to get “out there” and start my own business.

Share what attracted you to this business, and what you like most about it.

I love capturing people’s personalities through the lens of my camera.   When they forget you have a camera, and you can really capture who they are, there’s just no greater feeling.

What has been your biggest business challenge with your business thus far?

Finding the time to spend on it has been my biggest challenge so far, but I enjoy doing this so much it doesn’t feel like work.

What business goals to do you have for 2014?

To continue learning and growing with my photography.  I love the challenge of learning and trying new things and helping people see themselves in a different light.

Which one your products (or services) are you favorite and why?

I am having so much fun doing portrait work, and working with families is definitely a favorite – there is something incredible about capturing the love a family has for one another in photos.

What advice do you want to share for moms/women in business?

Find your passion and run with it.  If you find something that gives you joy AND you can earn a living doing it, get out there, and give it your best shot.

What do you or your family do for fun and recreation.

My husband and I like to travel and spend time with friends and family.

Are you on Facebook? Twitter? Linked-In?

Yes! Like me on Facebook at Deb Mitzel Photography.

If you could do anything for a living, and money was no object, what would you do?

I’ve got a lot of interests, so it’s hard to narrow it down to just one, but it would probably involve food, wine, and photography.

If you could “bust out” and do ONE crazy thing in your lifetime (with no consequences) what would that be?

I’d follow my favorite band, Bon Jovi, around the world from show to show.  Of course, Richie would have to come back first, because it just wouldn’t be the same without him. 🙂

If you had to choose one word to describe your focus for 2014, what would it be?

Deb Mitzel is a local photographer, who spends her free time capturing the beauty of the people and their surroundings in the Brainerd Lakes Area.  Deb always has a camera within reach, and her latest images can be found at
