Dig Into Reading Summer Reading Program at the Brainerd Public LibraryCalendar of Events – We will explore to the core this summer. Readers from birth through teens will celebrate our theme: Dig Into Reading! We’ll burrow into books and dig up fun with related stories, crafts, music and more. Mark this part of your summer plans! Sign up begins June 3rd.

“Paws” to read with Lulu the Dog – Lulu is a Reading Education Assistance Dog. She is very patient and calm and a great listener. Whether you’re a strong or struggling reader Lulu loves to hear kids read stories. Want to read her a story? Lulu will be at the library on Monday, June 3, 10 & 17 from 6:30pm to 7:30pm. Children’s Ojibwe Shoulder Bag Art and History – Wednesday June 5th @ 2:00pm* – Cheryl Minnema, Waabaanakwadookwe, has been practicing beadwork all her life. A member of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe, Minnema learned to bead from her family. She is very interested in preserving the traditions of her people, but she also brings to her craft a contemporary viewpoint as well. Families welcome.

Adult Ojibwe Beading Work Art & History – Wednesday, June 5 from 5:00pm-7:00pm with Cheryl Minnema Cheryl will be discussing the history and cultural importance of Ojibwe beading. Through this program attendees will start on a beading project that they will be able to take home with them. Register by calling 218-829-5574.

Author Patrick Mader – Wednesday June 19th @ 2:00pm* – Children’s picture book author, Patrick Mader, is an author of heartwarming, inspirational, and intergenerational stories. He’ll talk about his children’s books including Big Brother has Wheels and Oma finds a Miracle.

City Chickens: Keeping a Backyard Flock – Tuesday, June 11 @ 12:00pm with Master Gardener JoAnn Weaver. A flock of hens can be fun and productive. They’ll eat bugs, produce top-notch fertilizer, and lay eggs. This presentation will cover the basics of getting started with chicken keeping such as city codes, housing, coop care, breeds, resources, feeding, watering, and daily care.
