Happy Sunday! This Sunday I am excited to talk about and lend a helping hand to...Kinship Partners of Brainerd! They are right in the thick of their “Are You Ready” Kinship Mentor Drive campaign and I had the privilege of sitting down with Kinship Director David Downing and learning more about this great organization.
Here’s a little back story on Kinship
Kinship Partners is a nonprofit youth mentoring organization serving families within the communities of Brainerd, Baxter, Crosby, Deerwood, Pequot Lakes, Nisswa, Pine River, and Backus of Minnesota by providing positive role models to youth in our communities. Mentoring is simple and the most successful relationships are built around common shared activities and interests. We provide the support, structure and supervision needed to make sure everyone experiences a safe and positive relationship. You only need to be yourself – a caring adult, willing to spend time with a child who needs a role model.
Mentoring is so important because our community’s future rests on the hopes and dreams of our kids. Every child deserves a responsible and concerned adult who would love to provide them with guidance and support. Children of all ages need help to set and accomplish goals , and they can get that from an adult role model.
From a Adult Partner’s point of view:
Adult partners are attracted to Kinship for a variety of reasons, but a big one is; they love kids! They enjoy spending time with kids and sharing new experiences with them. Oftentimes mentors are adults who have raised their kids but still want to connect with youngsters, and many times adult mentors are individuals who have alot to offer kids. It’s all about being friends, sharing common interests, and doing what you normally do.

Are You Ready To Be A Mentor?-Wipe Out The Waiting List is in full swing and Kinship needs your help! The mentor drive ends February 1 and they need 50 new adult mentors to help get kids off the waiting list. Men mentors are in the highest demand but Kinship welcomes anyone who wished to fill out an application and become a key figure in a child’s life.

“Our biggest challenge is recruiting men, ” shares Downing. “Guys need to know they are needed and like our tagline say ‘Are you read to be a Hero? (tights and cape not required).’
There’s no expectation of needing to “entertain” your  Kinship partner. You just do what you normally would do, just with one extra person!”
Downing hopes increased advertising efforts and word of mouth will help them “wipe out the waiting list” and gain 50 new adult mentors.
To the world you may be
 just one person, but to
one person you just may
be the world.
