Howdy all!! Welcome to Mom Squad’s Sunday Spotlight. This is a fun feature we do every Sunday to profile our Mom Squaders. This week we are having a chat with Sandy Strom with Avon! Sandy has been a Mom Squader since DAY 1, and we love her for it. Welcome Sandy. This might be an obvious question because I’m a pretty sure everyone is familiar with Avon….BUT tell us a bit about your business.
Sandy: I am Sandy Strom, Independent Sales Representative for Avon Products, Inc., The Company for Women (and a few good men!). The products sold include cosmetics, skin care, daily needs, style, jewelry, fragrance, gifts, spa products, Curves products, and so much more.
ME: Curves products! Now that’s cool! I hear their shoe line is awesome. Oh Lordy how I wish there was still a Curves around here. How long have you been involved with your business, and what attracted you to the business and products?
Sandy: I have been selling Avon for 31 years. I started selling because I wanted to get my own products at cost and the Avon Reps I had been dealing with never stayed in business very long.
ME: 31 years…wow. I think it’s safe to say you are passionate about Avon. Is there anything you’d like to share about your family or your life?
Sandy: I’m a widow of five plus years, but I now have a new man in my life. I met Jim on E-Harmony in November 2009. I have one son who just turned 40 this month. My basic hobbies are reading and traveling.
ME: I’ve met Jim. He’s a great guy. If you could have any super power in the world, what would you pick and why?
Sandy: I would love to be able to wave a magic wand or twitch my nose like Samantha on “Bewitched” to get things done in a hurry without the labor involved.
ME: Ha! Love that. I’d love to wiggle my nose and say “oven..be CLEANED!”. I am still holding out for one that flushes. A riding vacuum cleaner would be nice too….I digress. Where do you see your business in 5 years?
Sandy: I probably will continue selling Avon until I die. It is a big part of my life. I’ll probably be slowing down a little more every year to get more involved in the “retirement mode.”
ME: You and I know success is hard, hard work. As a working Mom, what advice can you give to other Moms trying to juggle family and business?
Sandy: Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Family and friends have been involved in my Avon business and also helped out a great deal when I worked as a legal secretary (20 years) and spent 24 years in the Air Force. I am not “Wonder Woman” and would not have been able to do the things I have done without a lot of help.
ME:What’s your favorite way to spend a rainy day…thanks to the last couple of days..a snowy day?
Sandy: Sitting on my over-sized chair reading books or magazines.
ME: Oohh, now that’s a “happy place!”. As a woman-in-business, what advice would you give to other business women?
Sandy: Try to keep from getting stressed out. Take deep breaths and slow down. Take care of yourself first.
ME: That’s good advice. I need help in the “low stress” department. My hubby says I am like a tightly wound spring..all the time. Oops. Guess I need to work on that! What would you consider your “strong suit” in your business?
Sandy: Product knowledge. I love what sell and use what I sell.
ME: If you could do anything for a living, and money was no object, what would you do?
Sandy: I’ll be 63 in September. If money were no object, I would be traveling, maybe living in Alaska during the summer and Hawaii in the winter.
ME: After reading your last answer, I think I know what you will say, but I’ll ask anyway! If you could put yourself “in time out,” where would you be placed and why?
Sandy: My time out is coming on August 27 when Jim and I are heading to Alaska for a land and cruise vacation. Yeah!
ME: As a Mom, tell me one thing “you know for sure”?
Sandy: I was a single mom for many years. The one thing I know for sure is that it would have been very tough if I did not have the help I received from my family and friends.
ME: Good answer. How can people find you and all your rockin products?
Sandy: www.youravon.com/sstrom and my e-mail is firstname.lastname@example.org. Phone: 218-963-3901.
ME: Awesome! And for the record, MY favorite Avon products are:
1. The deodorant (only 99 cents!!)
2. Skin So Soft Sunblock (what Mom doesn’t love that stuff).
3. The Effective Eye Makeup Remover.
GOOD STUFF. Oh yeah…Sandy has a great coupon in our Edition 6 Coupon Packs too! Click the “Current Pack Locations” (or this link) to see where you can score one of your deal-packed Coupon Envelope. Thanks Sandy!
