I love Facebook. I repeat, I love Facebook.
Now, some people call it “Crackbook” and say it’s a waste of time.
Not for this chick. I have connected with old friends, relatives who live far away, and some pretty awesome people I have never met.
Alicia is one of those people.
I came across Alicia and her quest thanks to Habitat For Humanity ReStore who is a Mom Squader. They recommended I become a Fan of Alicia’s Habitat 500 Facebook Fan Page and her story was so interesting, I had to share it here. Here is an excerpt straight from the inspiring gal herself:
Hello! This is Alicia Weagel from Alicia Cycling MN. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR DONATING TO ME!
Yes, I am in Brainerd and from here originally. I went to college at UMD and moved back last summer and am now working as an AmeriCorps VISTA with Habitat for Humanity. That’s how I found out about the Habitat 500.
I didn’t have a car through high school, I biked everywhere I could. But I gained a lot of weight in college and I thought this would be a fantastic goal to change my body, my eating habits, and besides I LOVE CYCLING! As of April 3rd I’ve lost 5 body inches, and I’m measuring myself once a month- so I’ll see how much I’ve lost on May 3rd!
The bottom line is that Alicia is cycling to help raise funds and awareness for Lakes Area Habitat for Humanity. Her goal is a 500 mile bike ride around Northern MN. Whoa Nelly! Needless to say, I felt this was a fabby story and I want to pass the word on Alicia’s behalf. She has a site set up through FirstGiving/AliciaW where you can donate to her. Even a few bucks will help. I know money is tight but I kicked in $5 and immediately received a Thank You from her. Very nice.
I plan to keep tabs on her and cheer her on to her goal. Hope you will do the same.
I tip my bike helmet to you Alicia! You Go Girl!!
